Do you know there’s one natural ingredient out there that is a godsend for practically all of us? It doesn’t matter what kind of skin you have. If you use aloe vera, you’re going to be making your skin happy.
It’s no secret that aloe vera is good for your skin. Growing up in my house, we had aloe vera plants on our patio.
My mom would break off one of the fat pieces and squeeze out the natural gooey gel from within whenever we had bug bites or stayed in the sun too long.
But I’d also watch her use it on her face even when she hadn’t been plagued by summer sun or mosquitoes. She said it was one of the best things for the skin.
Perhaps we should all listen to our moms more. I didn’t until I found out that science-backed up what she’d always believed about aloe vera. And if you look at the sheer volume of products for your skin on the shelves out there with aloe vera, you have to know it is one of those successful skincare ingredients.
Enter the DIY cleansing aloe vera face wash. It’s such a simple way to harness the power of the plant without taking in unnecessary ingredients. You don’t have to be adept at making things to put this together either.
It’s a very simple process with very straightforward results. When you use this natural aloe vera cleansing wash, you’ll eliminate all the other chemicals and just get to the point of cleansing and hydrating your face. And isn’t that what you want?
There are so many cleansers out there that strip your skin of its natural oils, cause irritation, or leave dirt and makeup behind.
You’re about to change your life for the better by getting rid of all of that. Go natural with this cleansing aloe vera face wash, and you won’t go back. Keep reading, and I’ll talk you through the whole thing!
DIY Aloe Vera Face Cleanser
A DIY aloe vera face cleanser is so simple to make. I have 4 versions starting with one for oily and acne-prone skin. The ingredient list looks a little long, I admit, but it’s all-natural stuff.
You may have to gather a few things first before you make it, but these things are easy to find and even easier when you order them to be delivered to your door. It’s a game-changer when you make a cleanser like this for your skin.
You’ll wonder why you didn’t sooner, much like I wonder why I didn’t listen to my mom (sorry, Mom!). Each of these is targeted to your skin concerns though they all rely on aloe vera!
DIY Aloe Vera Face Cleanser for Oily and Acne-Prone Skin
Ok, first I’m going to list down everything you need. Then, I’m going to go into some greater details about why some of these ingredients are in my DIY aloe vera face cleanser and what they can do for you.
You will need:
- 1 pump bottle
- 1/4 cup distilled water
- 2 tablespoon of aloe vera gel
- 1/2 cup almond liquid castile soap
- 1 tablespoon of witch hazel
- 1 tablespoon of raw honey
- 10 drops of lavender oil
- 10 drops of rosemary oil
- 10 drops of tea tree oil
- 5 drops of lemon oil
- 5 drops of oregano oil
- 5 drops of peppermint oil
So, now for the ‘why’ on these ingredients!
– Tea tree oil
I love tea tree oil. It’s a total Rockstar when it comes to banishing acne-causing bacteria. It’s very anti-inflammatory and helps soothe skin while healing it.
And while it will starve that acne bacteria, so pimples dry out, it won’t dry out all your skin, at least not while combined with these other ingredients that will help balance out the drying act.
- With Niacinamide, Vitamin C, Salicylic Acid & Retinol
- Unclog Pores
- Vegan
Also, I don’t know about you, but I happen to love the smell. It reminds me of the sauna and makes me feel cleansed and refreshed.
– Lavender oil
While I love tea tree oil, my heart fully belongs to lavender oil. It is an essential ingredient if you have cystic acne or breakouts that itch. Lavender oil is proven to be rapidly absorbed, making it extremely gentle on the skin.
- 100% Pure & Natural
- Tested by an Independent Lab
- Blends Well with Many Other Essential Oils
It has antimicrobial properties too that tackle the cysts, getting them to come out without causing you pain. Plus, lavender is so soothing and calming. It really helps you sleep better.
– Rosemary oil
Oily skin is such a pain because it perpetuates the whole breakout cycle. Rosemary oil comes in like, “Not today!” It helps regulate your skin’s natural sebum production so that it stops overcompensating and clears up.
- 100% Pure & Cold Pressed
- Natural Anti-Aging Moisturizer for Acne Scars, and Wrinkles
Because it’s anti-inflammatory, it takes away the redness and puffiness, too, so your skin will look calmer every time you cleanse.
– Oregano oil
Since it’s both antibacterial and antiseptic, oregano oil is a natural spot treatment that can kick existing pimples to the curb.
- Organic and Unprocessed Oregano Oil
- Free of Chemicals
It’s very powerful, which is why it’s diluted in this DIY cleanser to help dry out the acne spots without drying out the rest of your skin.
– Peppermint oil
- 100% Pure and Natural
- Tested by an Independent Lab
- Blends Well with Many Other Oils
Peppermint oil is wonderful to help your pores calm down. It reduces swelling and inflammation, particularly the kind caused by acne bacteria. Peppermint oil naturally contains menthol, which helps decongest skin and chase away redness.
– Lemon oil
Lemon oil is such an uplifting ingredient. It has vitamin C, which is a natural skin brightener, plus it’s full of antioxidants.
This helps clarify skin and get the gunk out of your pores. Lemon oil also helps skin heal well while gently exfoliating to keep microbes out of that tender healing area.
– Witch hazel
Witch hazel hasn’t been studied extensively despite it having been around and used in beauty for ages.
My mom always had it in the bathroom cabinet. But the few studies that do exist on witch hazel show that it has some compounds that are capable of providing antioxidant benefits.
- For Oily, Acne, Irritated, Blemished, Red or Inflamed Skin
- 100% Natural Astringent
- Shrinks the Pores
It calms skin down too, another ideal option for angry, breakout-prone skin.
DIY Aloe Vera face cleanser for combination skin
Now, if you have combination skin, there are a few tweaks I’ve got for you to follow to make a cleansing aloe vera face wash naturally.
You will need:
- 1 pump bottle
- 1/4 cup of distilled water
- 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel
- 1/2 cup of almond liquid castile soap
- 10 drops of chamomile oil
- 10 drops of sandalwood oil
- 10 drops of tea tree oil
- 1 tablespoon of raw honey
There are 2 different ingredients here that I want to highlight as to why they benefit your combination skin.
– Chamomile essential oil
- Topical Use for Sensitive Skin
- 100% Pure Chamomile Oil
Chamomile is certainly soothing as a tea. And guess what? As an essential oil, it can really help calm down skin irritations. Plus, it smells SO good!
– Sandalwood essential oil
Combination skin means you get breakouts here and there, and that you likely have large pores. Sandalwood essential oil is great for refining pores and making them look smaller again.
- Topical Use for Dry, Irritated Skin
- 100% Pure Sandalwood Oil
It also helps bring balance to oiliness so your skin will look better and better with each use.
DIY Aloe Vera face cleanser for dry skin
If dry skin is your problem, I have a different combination of ingredients for you, along with the aloe vera gel.
These will help tackle that dryness and get the skin back to a soft, supple, and hydrated feel.
You will need:
- 1 pump bottle
- 1/4 cup of distilled water
- 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel
- ½ cup of almond liquid castile soap
- 2 tablespoon of coconut oil
- 10 drops of argan oil
- 10 drops of jojoba oil
- 10 drop of squalane oil
In my cleansing aloe vera face wash for dry skin, there are 4 different ingredients that I’ve selected to boost your skin’s hydration and health.
– Coconut oil
Everyone loves coconut oil (I know I do!). It’s wonderful for delivering intense moisturization to skin.
It’s very soothing too, which is a blessing if your skin feels so dry it’s parched.
- Organic, Cold-pressed Coconut Oil
- Hydrates the Skin
Natural coconut oil can do wonders for your skin when it’s overly dry and bring you the relief you’ve been searching for.
– Argan oil
Argan oil comes from the argan tree that Morocco is known for. A treasured beauty secret, this anti-inflammatory oil naturally contains linoleic acid and vitamin E.
Each of these have been proven by science to boost skin elasticity. Along with oleic acid, it retrains skin to stop overcompensating for dryness, allowing it to only release what it needs to keep skin soft and healthy.
It’s also a very healing oil that minimizes scars and fine lines for a more beautiful complexion over time.
– Jojoba oil
Jojoba oil comes from a desert plant and has always been a staple in your favorite skincare products.
Why? Oh, only because it has fatty acids to nourish your skin while protecting your surface skin so it locks in moisture.
- For Oily, Combination, Sensitive, Dry, or Normal Skin
- Natural Cold Pressed Unrefined Hexane Free Oil
In fact, the composition of jojoba oil is so similar to the natural sebum skin produces that it tricks your skin into creating less so you won’t become overly oily. Pretty cool, huh?
– Squalane oil
You’ve like seen squalane listed on big name skincare brand ingredient lists. Ever wondered what it is? It comes from olives.
- For Dry Skin
- 100%Pure Olive Derived Squalane
- Absorbs Quickly into the Skin
It has very tiny molecules which means your skin can really soak it up beautifully to reveal your best and healthiest skin.
DIY Aloe Vera face cleanser for normal skin
And finally, I have one more variation on my aloe vera face wash. This one is ideal if you have normal skin. I’ll be talking about the ingredients that make it stand out below.
You will need:
- 1 pump bottle
- 1/4 cup of distilled water
- 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel
- 1 tablespoon of raw honey
- 1/4 cup of almond liquid castile soap
- 10 drops of jojoba oil
- 10 drops of marula oil
- 10 drops of squalane oil
– Marula oil
Marula oil is one of those amazing natural ingredients that loves skin. It is ideal for hydrating while filling in the skin where it gaps.
It’s such a phenomenal skincare ingredient. It has oleic and linoleic fatty acids, leaving skin soft and nourished without feeling greasy.
- Non-Greasy
- Quickly Absorbed into the Skin
- Provides an Ultra-Hydration for the Skin
It also boosts collagen and elastin production by stopping the enzymes that break it down. If you are concerned at all about aging skin, using marula oil is going to be your favorite thing.
– Honey
Raw, organic honey is a prime source of antioxidants. That’s why you should also be eating it.
I want to specify that you should get real honey, not that fake liquid sugar in the honey bear bottle (I know it’s cute, but it’s just not real honey).
In addition to antioxidants, honey has antibacterial and antifungal properties that help kill off that acne bacteria.
It can help clean pores, so there’s nothing to lead to a random zit or a full-on breakout while healing wounds and reducing infection.
Honey is an amazing natural ingredient that leaves skin looking even better.
How to make a DIY face cleanser
It is not at all hard to make your cleansing aloe vera face wash. Simply choose the formulation that matches your skin type.
Then combine all those ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
I personally love using a bottle with a pump dispenser because it makes life so much easier.
- With Black Plastic Pump and Lid
- 16 Ounce Glass Mason Jar
- Rust Proof
You can use a mason jar or even a brand-new liquid soap dispenser. That’s always a good idea. However, if you do go the route of the jar, use a spoon to scoop out what you need each time.
Never stick your hand into any skincare jar as you can transfer bacteria to it and ruin the effectiveness.
It can be stored at room temperature safely for several months unless you use fresh aloe. If so, fresh aloe needs to go in the fridge so it won’t spoil.
How to use a DIY face cleanser
When you’re ready to use this cleansing aloe vera face wash, simply shake the bottle or jar. Once shaken, use just a small amount.
Pump or scoop it into your hand, then gently massage it all over your face. Use gentle circular motions and then let it sit for a minute before rinsing away.
That’s literally it. You will soon see a difference in how well your skin behaves, but the first thing you’ll notice from the moment you use it is how clean your skin feels.
It feels fresh and revived without feeling tight and dried out. Those chemicals you’ve been using are what lead to tight, stretched out skin. It’s uncomfortable, and no one wants that, so make the switch to natural and I promise you’ll never look back.
Conclusion
You don’t need to use chemicals to clean your skin. Instead, you can get to the root cause of your skin concerns by making your own cleansing aloe vera wash naturally.
With these 4 different combinations to target your skin type, you can make the one that works best for you and get a whole new kind of clean, healthy, and vibrant complexion!
